The Russell Industrial Center is the largest art community in the Midwest, and over 100+ artists have a workspace in the Russell. It is a fantastic workspace, and its exhibition center has hosted over 100 events in the past couple of years, from concerts, bazaars, parties, shows, music videos, and movie shootings.
I had the pleasure of attending a few of those events, most recently Skull Detroit. Opening Ceremony took place on a Thursday in November of 2022. The environment was intense, with a chance to experience a Tarot Reading. Tons of unique items to purchase. The music was moving, and the artist put on a show.
RUSSELL INDUSTRIAL CENTER
Detroit has a large industrial and goth scene. Per Mikel OD it is "full of bands and fans that support it every weekend at places like Small's and City Club, but never a full-fledged festival." Skull Detroit was the first annual GothFest.

The events are just the tip of the iceberg. The RIC is also home to unique vendors like Detroit Urban Artifacts and What Up Doe Certified. Check out the more in-depth Quicks on these cool shopping places.
Don't look elsewhere if you are looking for a location to host an event, a warehouse to store your products, or a grunge setting to inspire your creative side. The RIC is a hidden gem with its ups and downs, but it truly fits Detroit's essence of history, hard work, and toughness.
