The debate between the Detroit People Mover and the QLINE has been a hot topic lately. Some people swear by the People Mover, while others think the QLINE is the way to go. So, which is the better option? Let's take a closer look.
The Detroit People Mover is a quirky but fantastic option for getting around downtown. "It opened to the public in 1987, and the elevated train was so packed with eager riders that a voice on the loudspeaker asked those in the crowded cars only to ride once so others would have a chance as well."
Even with all the changes to the city since then, People Mover supporters say the system remains relevant because of an influx of new residents in the area and its ability to move people around downtown quickly. The view from the People Mover is also unparalleled - you can get an amazing aerial view of the city.
The view from the QLINE can't compare because, of course, it's from the ground. You will see more of the city and get more of a view if you ride the entire route. The QLINE runs in a straight line but can get you from the New Center area to downtown quickly and easily. The QLINE has 20 stations at 12 stops on a 3.3-mile span down Woodward.
The QLINE starts at Penske Station on Woodward and Grand Boulevard and drives south on Woodward to its last stop on Congress to charge for 3 to 5 minutes, then turns around to head back north.

Initially, the free-fare pilot was expected to end on April 1. Still, it has been extended indefinitely, thanks to generous contributions from the Penske Corporation and Kresge Foundation, two of the QLINE's foundational supporters.
So, which is the better option? It depends on your needs. If you're looking for an easy way to get around downtown and don't mind the quirky nature of the People Mover, then it's the better option for you. However, if you're looking for a straight shot from one area of town to another, the QLINE is probably a better option.
